Paige’s Palm Springs Inspired Bathroom

Most of our 36 readers are probably aware that I built my dream house from nothing but a pile of dirt when I was still married. I put an insane amounts of hours, attention to every tiny detail and thought it through and through again so that it would function just right for my family, businesses and kid’s needs. When we decided our marriage was going to be moving into a coparenting friendship and that one of us would have to move out, I was nominated. To my delight, the ceiling wallpaper in the formal living room had not yet been installed. Like a mean scorned woman looking for bone chilling revenge, I ruthlessly confiscated the three rolls of wallpaper and took it with me to be used somewhere else someday. Every man would be furious that the feminine wallpaper would no longer be going on the ceiling I’m sure.

To understand this tiny but fierce transformation, you must first see the u-taupe-ia I purchased.

The good news was, I thought the floor and tub surround tile was acceptable. Just don’t look too closely at the weekend warrior grout job on the tub tile and all is well. The bad news was that I liked nothing else.

I like to make a design board with my ideas before I buy anything. I have saved myself lots of money and mistake making by doing this. Here is what I had in mind.

Now this says Paige “Extra” Walker! I made a few changes along the way, as expected. Let’s see how it came together!

The Wallpaper is Osborne & Little Vernazza and comes in several other colorways. To me, small bathrooms are the perfect place for wallpaper! If you are feeling like getting out of your comfort zone a little, it’s a space you can really have fun with and bring the drama!

I get asked what color I painted the vanity every time it pops up on instagram stories. Luckily I didn’t have to! It comes in this beautiful navy shade, (it also comes in gray and white) with the marble top and gold hardware just like this. The only thing I had to add was the faucet and pop up drain. Don’t forget the dang drain. I did at first. Rookie.

Originally I was going to have a medicine cabinet mirror installed, but after further inspection and talking it through with one of my construction guys, we decided it would only really look good if we recessed it into the wall. Scratch that idea. I opted for a simple mirror, which are words I never figured would come out of my mouth and a simple vanity light as well. Balance.

The shelf I thought would go above the toilet stuck out too far for my likings, so I found some fun art and I’m much happier with the look. Plus I don’t have to jack with styling yet another shelf.

A tiny bathroom like this needs some space saving solutions. Organizing and keeping organized, not my strong point. The door towel rack and skinny cart for hair stuff have been a huge help though! The door wouldn’t shut when I added the towel rack, so I used the hooks that I linked below. Great solution!

It’s hard to see because even with my widest angle lens, I just can’t get much of the shower curtain photographed. I love the look of floor to ceiling shower curtains. I didn’t get actual shower curtains because I knew no one would really be showering in that room, just using the bath tub. This set of two velvet turquoise panels was only $40! I got a gold tension rod and put it as high up on the wall as I could get it. There is one curtain panel on each side of the rod.

I fell in love with these tassel boho towels and knew they would be perfect. The hand towel was on backorder but so very much worth the wait! They also come in a light blue and white.

The towel racks and other hardware needed an update and these are much improved.

I didn’t think this room needed a window treatment because of the frosted glass, ancient, painted shut, beauty of a window. Not sure what I was thinking, because the grass shade made a huge difference and was easy to install myself.

And what fun is a funky bathroom without a funky bath mat? I came across quite a few that I loved and had to share!

Ok so that’s cute and all Paige, but how much did it cost you?

Oh hi random reader, what a great question! Let’s do some math!

Wallpaper: 2 rolls $294

My tile guy dumped grout in the tub causing it to need to be refinished. Drat. Add another $200

Faucet: $167

Pop up drain: $20

Hardware: $60

Mirror: $129

Vanity: $707

Vanity light: $120

Framed Prints: $120

Over the door towel rack: $16

Storage cart: $20

Fringe hand and bath towel: $96

Bath mat: $40

Grass roman shade: $100

Curtain panels: $40

Tension rod: $30

The grand total brings us to just over $2100. The wallpaper installer and plumber add a little to that total, but I don’t know exactly how much because the quote was for multiple rooms of wallpaper and multiple plumbing projects.

It’s been fun turning it from beige to Paige!
