Summer fleeeeeewwww by! With only two weeks left before school starts we are trying to squeeze every last drop of that sweet summer goodness.
These two mamas LOVE all things summer but we are jumping for joy to get back into our routines. It’s just time! So if you’re anything like us you’re probably starting to think about all the things you need to start the school year off right. Well look no further friends, we’ve got you covered.
Backpacks are the first thing on the list. When shopping for a backpack I’m pretty hands off. I let my kids choose whatever design they like best. Pottery Barn Kids, Amazon and Nordstrom are a few of the places they like to check out. Backpacks usually last us a couple of years if we are lucky. Side pockets are a necessity to hold water bottles…we learned that the hard way last year. Here are a few great options, click on any picture below to shop.
Next up, lunchboxes. I need something that I can throw in the wash and that is insulated. Other than that they can choose whatever their little hearts desire. Which is why Hayes had a Paw Patrol pail instead of the cute monogramed striped one that I wanted for him. Below are some cute options for every kid on your list.
Over the years I found some products I really love for school. Below are a few:
- Yumbox: My very favorite bento box. My friend Andrea introduced me to these a few years ago and I never looked back. These things will last you years. They stay sealed and make packing lunches easier for me. They may seem pricey but are very well made and worth every penny.
- Condiment Containers: Keep the ketchup from touching the grapes. V important.
- Lunchbox Notes: I am no Pinterest mom by any means but every now in then I like to throw a little note in their lunches to make them smile. This booklet is filled with inspirational messages like “You are a loving, kind and generous person.” And “Treat others the way you want to be treated.”
- Lunchbox Jokes and Riddles: While the inspirational messages fill my daughter love cup my son would be way less embarrassed by a good joke!
- Ice Packs: No warm turkey sandwiches allowed. I sometimes even use these in the front pocket of their backpack to keep snacks cold.
- My TWO favorite water bottles. This one has a pop top and this one has a straw.
- Stasher Reusable Bags: People are crazy over these. I’m excited to use them this year and hopeful they will keep sliced apples from turning yellow. They come in many sizes but the sandwich and snack sizes are currently in my cart.
- Labels: Your kids are going to lose it. Whatever it is, if you want it back you better label. The iridescent label is calling Presley’s name.
- Yumbox make this list twice because they are that good. These come in different sizes even a snack version that we love.
- Silicone Baking Cups: I use these inside of Yumbox so strawberries don’t touch sandwiches and goldfish stay contained. My kids are so easy going. 😉
If your kids school requires uniforms, you’ll definitely want to stock up on some of these.

There is something so exciting about the fresh start of a new school year. Are you the mom that tears up at drop off or jumps for joy in the parking lot? I’m a little bit of both.

Great post!! Northface booksbags are the best!! My teenage daUghters buy either vera brdaley or scout lunCh Boxes!! I but two lunChboxes. Lets faces it lunChboxes are gross after some time. I always wash them also.
Totally agree, those things get NASTY. Especially when you find one from Friday still in the car on Monday morning. gag!
What kinds of snacks do you usually send to school? I feel that’s one area I struggle most! Love the tip of putTing an ice Pack in the front pocket of their backpack for snack, that definItely opens up more possibilities!
I like to pack something with some protein like a cheese stick, with sliced apples. Or a granola bar with grapes. Sometimes hummus and pretzels.
