We love this series. Readers questions answered….
Kiss, Kill, Marry….queso, wine, chocolate
JM: Marry queso (duh), Kiss Wine, Kill Chocolate. Easy.
PW:Marry never again. Kiss chocolate and queso, but not at the same time. Kill wine. I’m not a big drinker.
Did you have an episiotomy with any of your baby deliveries? My doc and I aren’t on the same page…
JM: I did not. My dr. explained them like this…imagine cutting a piece of fabric….that fabric then tears much more easily. For this reason my Dr. was against episiotomies and I was totally ok with that.
PW: Is it weird that I don’t remember? I know I had stitches each time, and each time was increasingly less stitchy.
What were your top must haves when building?
JM: We spent a ton of time on layout and electrical. So I would say hire a good architect if its a custom build. I wanted the flow to make sense and work well for our family. We didn’t want wasted space or areas that no one would use. For electrical we tried to think through floor plugs, drawer outlets, etc but still had some misses (mantle and Christmas light outlets). It’ll never be perfect. Oh and storage…that was super important to us with 3 kids.
PW: The first thing I was asked to do was create a wishlist with pictures. This didn’t necessarily mean I would get it all, but it was the starting point for the architect. The whole point of us moving was to get a bedroom for everyone, so that my assistant and I could have an office and we could have more than a little tykes airplane landing strip for a backyard. Oh and I was really hung up on a curved staircase.
Here is the inspo that I brought to the architect and builder. When I say I worked tirelessly on this thing for almost two years, I put my all into it.
It ended up taking on it’s own unique look but this was so helpful to get it all going! You can see the finished home here. If you are new here, it may be confusing, I only lived in the home for a very short amount of time and stayed upstairs. We knew we were separating, but didn’t have the details figured out yet. The house that I’ve been sharing on instagram is my new bachelorette pad that I have been renovating.
Guilty Pleasure:
JM: Candy while watching crap TV. Right now its these:
PW: Online shopping for my house. For such a small house, one would think I would have it done by now. I do not. I spend so much time before I fall asleep looking at inspiration and trying to finalize all the fun details. What will I do when it’s done?! Probably buy something for myself again, but that is stressing me out because I gained quarantine weight and divorce diet is long gone so I don’t even know what sizes to order anymore.
What is your biggest regret?
JM: I spent a big part of my childhood & young adult life being a worrier. Worrying about things that never happened, worrying about things that could happen, worrying about things that will never happen. As I have gotten older (and most likely a result of me growing in my faith) I worry less and less. I wish I could’ve learned this lesson at a younger age. Anxiety and fear is the worst.
PW: Not realizing there were detrimental marriage problems until it was way way WAY too late. Most couples don’t start therapy until the problems have been there for 6 years. Also, getting married too young. I didn’t get to live out the single young professional days and always felt envious of those that did. I got engaged in college and went straight into homeownership in the suburbs. Cliche warning: I wouldn’t change any of it though because it’s my journey and so much good has come out of these emerging adulthood choices.
What does Jeni’s husband do?
He and his twin brother, Mike are partners at Ashton Commercial, a construction company in the DFW metroplex. They are two of the hardest workers and best guys I know.
PW: Nick and Mike are so great! I have known them both since college and they are honest, hard working, salt of the earth!
Did Miggle move to Texas?
Yes! The invisible string between soul mate’s hearts can only be stretched across the country for so long. As much as I love California, I can’t just uproot my kids and move there, so LA boy has come to Texas. I was worried he might not like it, he has lived all over the world. He is loving it here, is highly confused by the weather, can’t believe how nice everyone is and also didn’t expect there to be everything they have where he lived plus more, minus a beach.
Do you and your spouse/partner always agree on stuff?
JM: Big stuff, yes. Little things that don’t matter like which shirt he should wear to date night…..nope.
PW: Yes and no. I’m not the alpha anymore so that’s an adjustment for me. Having been brought up so differently in such different cultural climates, we shockingly agree on the majority of things. What we disagree on is few and far between and helps us to expand our minds and take in a new perspective. Like Jeni said, which shirt he should wear to date night is hit or miss. He has a very swaggy unique style and every now and then I hate a shirt. There I said it.
Share a secret:
JM: No. Haha nice try though.
PW: I don’t have many, but the ones I do have will stay with me. I did once steal a small eraser from a store when I was in kindergarten.
What is your favorite purchase lately?
JM: I talked about both of these yesterday but definitely this mirror and these makeup brushes.
PW: These bras! My cousin heard about them from TikTok. I took one of hers to try and as a self proclaimed bralette expert, I loved them and immediately bought my own set. I got a M/L and they don’t make back fat armpit rolls, are very comfortable and have a little padding.
These books! They are pricey, but so very worth it. They are really large, so beautiful and make your coffee table or credenza look like it was styled by a pro.
These nails! How are these not spoken about more? Why have I been spending a fortune at the nail salon for so long?! I’m sold on these, I use the glue that comes with them, not the adhesive strips. They last me a little over a week and flake off so easily leaving no damage. My life is forever changed.
This moisturizer: I’m the CEO of the dry skin club. I love this. It says it’s a mask, but you can totally just use it as a very hydrating moisturizer.
These flowers: These are stunning! They don’t have a scent, they are just the most realistic faux roses. The reviews are all very valid. I’m obsessed and they make other faux florals look janky. I got purple.
What was the last present you received?
JM: Nick did really well on Valentines this year and I got these beauties:
PW: Miggle spoils me. I didn’t really think I cared much about gifts, but it melts me every time he brings me something. It lets me know he’s thinking about me and he has great taste!
This is the latest:
I am dying for that mug!!!
It gets used daily and does not disappoint!
love this series. ok, can I ask how much weight you gained?
thanks! We love writing these! I have been honestly nervous to get on the scale. But I’m guessing 5-8 lbs.
