We hope you enjoyed getting to know us a little better in last week’s post. You can see it here. If you don’t see your question check back next week. As always if you want to know ANYTHING leave us a comment or DM us.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
PW: I have aggressive annoyances with lots of words and phrases. That’s probably more of a personality flaw than a pet peeve. I cringe at certain cliche phrases and some words I would never use and have a mini secret panic moment when others use them. For example, lip gloss doesn’t bother me, but if you refer to a lip of a cup or lip of something I vom in my mouth. Descriptive words about food can be so bad, moist, tender, (tender just in general, tender moments, tender meat, tender spot on your arm, shut up!!!). Tinder, however, swipe right I have no problems with that. I could write so much about this, but will just make myself look like a grumpy psycho. Whistling with vibrato could be one of the most irritating sounds on the planet. Meetings with no agenda or that take 12 times longer than necessary. Get to the point. Text me the most important 4 sentences and we could have all saved a few hours. Also PLEASE, I beg of you, if you are in a meeting and you have a question that pertains to you and likely only you, do not, under any circumstances, raise your hand and make the rest of us sit there any longer and listen to something that we do not have any interest in hearing. Let’s say there is a meeting at the beginning of the school year, the teacher went through the packet, meeting was wrapped up. Does anyone have any questions? The answer is no. Or the answer is email her later. Or the answer is ask her after we are done.
JM: I have quite a few. I really hate it when people try to get into the elevator before letting people off. Rude. Also, when you go into a store and the salesperson doesn’t acknowledge you. So rude. I’m not talking about a big department store but a small boutique where the door dings and you are one of the only people there besides said salesperson. A friendly hello and how are you goes a long way with me. Last but certainly not least…mouth noises. I just can’t.
What is your biggest vice?
PW: Addiction is a huge problem generation after generation in both sides of my family. Somehow, someway, I don’t give a flying flip about alcohol and drugs. PHEW! I do binge eat sometimes, no purging, just sit there miserable, regretting it, restless leg syndrome starts to creep in when I eat like this, so that’s a fun side effect too. I can get super out of control with desserts and be a big old gluttonous blob.
JM: I couldn’t think of one so I asked my husband and he said “nagging”. This may need to be filed under personality flaw as well. No drugs, very little alcohol but I do love to eat candy in bed on the regular. Other friends talk about needing their nightly glass of wine and I’m over here like pass me the Sour Patch Kids. I have a secret stash and I’ll lie if my kids ask me if I have any candy, so maybe that’s a sign of a problem?!
How do you keep your hair looking thick and healthy?
PW: We “wear” our hair everyday. This is something that we really need to take care of, so I do! I use pureology shampoo and conditioner and a conditioning mask. After I wash my hair, which I only do once a week, I comb it out with a wide tooth comb to minimize breakage. Using a heat protectant is important and keeping heat tool use to a minimum. I am obsessed with a spray that speeds blow drying time plus a heat protectant. I will link it below, the smell is divine! Dry shampoo and hair powder help a lot to stretch out the time between washes. Washing your hair is a process that is damaging, shampoos strip oil and then you use a hair dryer, curling iron or flat iron causing even more damage. Since I do only wash my hair once a week, I shampoo it twice, once to remove the product and then a second time to actually really clean my hair and head. When I’m putting on conditioner, I try to stay to the ears and below so that my roots are not as likely to get oily quickly. The mask goes on the ears and down as well, then I shave and rinse it out when I’m done. Towards the end of the week, when my hair is looking pretty meh, I put it in a low ponytail or braid. I used clip in extensions for years when I wanted some extra thickness. I recently got tape in extensions by Vanessa Gomez at Katour’s salon which makes my hair so much thicker and I just love it! Side note: I did not link any of these beauty products from amazon except for the clip ins BECAUSE I have been burned a few times by ordering pricey products and they came in and were fake. So disappointing! Not worth the risk!
JM: Good products and a salon that knows their stuff. I LOVE Kérastas it’s my all time fav. And because I know you’ll ask everything I use is below. I’ve also had my hair damaged many times by going to salons close to home and trying to get a “deal”. I’ve learned my lesson and now I make the drive to Dallas to go to someone I really trust and a salon that I know uses quality bleach/dye/products/etc.
How did you meet your husbands?
PW: Taking it back to Lubbock, TX. There was this hot guy who could drive on campus in his hot guy jeep. Who was this gorgeous man and why was he allowed to drive on campus? I used my investigative skills and found out who he was and that he was involved in, or the president of, all these major organizations. Bonus points for being ambitious, bonus points for getting the on campus parking pass. My friends all knew I had a crush on this dude who had no idea that I existed. One of them even snagged me a “Re-elect Zach Walker” button when he was running for student senate. I was dubbed the “Walker Stalker” and it was all just funny and goofy and even though I wanted to be dating this guy that I didn’t know, I wasn’t sure how to even meet him! I knew a couple of people who knew him, and tried to slyly figure out where he would be so we could have a totally random chance encounter lol. I got word that he would be going to Klusoz, so I, also, would be going to Klusoz, duh. Our mutual friend introduced us and we hit it off! I just knew I would marry him and he was perfect for me. He even asked that friend to hook him up with me. It was just too good to be true. So of freakin’ course it was. I saw him out one other night and he was super rude. He was the bouncer at this crappy bar called Bash Riprock’s and instead of being the same awesome and funny dude, he was just like all of the rest of the fratty butt faces and I was left wondering why he even invited me to his gross bar. I was pretty much devastated. I had built him up so much in my head and it all fell apart before it even began. Wompety womp. He never called me and I didn’t see him again, except for once when I saw him leave the bar with some other girl that actually lived on my floor in the dorms. Sting! A few months passed and I decided to go out with a few older girls in my sorority on a Monday night of all nights. I never go out on Mondays. We went to Hub City and then to Klusoz again to meet some baseball player friends. I was having a great time when in walks Zach Walker himself! He made his way straight to me and we picked up right where we left off that first great night! I lied and told the baseball dude that was talking to me that Zach was my roommate’s boyfriend and he was going to take me home. We left and went to Arby’s and talked for so long over beef and cheddars. After that monday, I saw him again on Wednesday at Crystals (DJ please play Mystikal, Nelly, Cam’ron, Lil Jon, Ja Rule, Jagged Edge, Trick Daddy and Ludacris) then that next weekend was Fiji Islander. He had been calling me some that week and after Fiji Islander we started talking every day, going on dates, falling in love, being giddy and here we are 17 years later and have created the life I always prayed for. He is as good as it gets and I am a huge wacky pain in the ass and I’m thankful he deals with me and my antics. #walkerstalkerforever Also, I made sure to add the names of the bars and places we went so other Tech grads could get a good chuckle or maybe have a fun memory pop in.
JM: Nick and I met in college at Texas Tech at the very first fraternity party I ever stepped foot into. He remembers exactly what I was wearing (a sorority shirt tied up to show off my pre-freshman 15 stomach and cut-offs). I remember that he was shirtless with jeans that were all ripped and the sides cut to make them wider at the bottom. Ha. We dated a little on and off and I was totally into him. My mom was coming in town so I could get my wisdom teeth out and he was like I’m not ready to meet any parents so he said peace. Waaahhhh. I was a sad little freshman and decided to try to get back at him by dating one of his friends. Sorry about that babe. It worked and a year later we were together, in love and inseparable. A year after that he was going off to study abroad in Spain. My mom loves to tell the story about how I laid on the couch a depressed mess while he was away. We spent all of the money we didn’t have on calling cards. I flew over to see him on my spring break and he came back to good old Lubbock, TX for his…instead of traveling to the Swiss Alps with the rest of his crew. Sorry about that too babe. I turned 21, and was selfish and irresponsible and decided to break up with him for a bit to spread my wings. That “bit” lasted a little longer than I anticipated. I ended up getting married, having two beautiful babies and getting divorced. Guys and dating were no where on my radar after that. Until one fateful day when my friends and I showed up to a Tech/TCU football game. We were walking through the tailgate to get to the stadium and I saw him….wait, crap that’s not him that’s his twin, Mike. My heart started beating fast and I thought to myself…that was weird. I ignored the feeling, went to the game, had fun with friends and went out to dinner after. Just as we were walking out of the restaurant to make our way home I see him. He was walking right in front of us to go to a bar next door. Our friends decide to join his and we caught up over a beer. He told me he had heard about my divorce and that he was sorry. He was a complete gentleman. We got in the car that night and all of my girlfriends were squealing and asking for details. Dayme asked me if he got my number and no…he definitely did not. Boo. A month passes and I get a Facebook message. Nick is asking me to dinner-OH EMM GEE. He was so sweet “I’d love to take you to dinner, if or when you’re ready.” We had a wonderful second “first date” and the rest is history. He is the best guy I have ever known and I am still the only girl he has ever said “I love you” to. I wasn’t real sure what God’s plan was after my divorce, but He redeemed it all, y’all.
Do you have any pets:
PW: I impulsively went to the Petsmart animal shelter and adopted a kitten for Kylie’s 6th birthday. He loves us fiercely, especially me, which I half love, half do not love. It must have been fate because on the way home from school that day, when she had no idea we had a kitten waiting at home, she told my mom that all she wanted for her birthday was a fluffy white kitty. We had not discussed getting a kitten and Zach is pretty allergic, so I told the girls we would probably never be able to get one. I always thought I was a dog person, I have now been converted. Dogs are too much work for me, cats just do their own thing and come out of hiding a few hours a day for some non obnoxious cuddles. You get the nice furry mammal without all the stress and work of a dog. Zach and I got two dogs in college, Merlin and Cricket. Cricket was a chocolate lab that died last year and Merlin was my animal soul mate and was an Old English Sheepdog. I’m sure I will have a dog again at some point, but for now it’s all we can do to handle easy Pierre.
JM: We have a crazy 6 year old Wheaten Terrier named Duke. My kids love Duke. And that’s all I really have to say about that. Ha. No, he really is a good dog, just not the smartest.
Is there ever competition between the two of you?
PW: Since we are in this as a team effort, we have a team mentality. There is really nothing to compete over. We just divide up the work and have fun doing it! I do see how there could be competitive feelings if we both had our own separate blogs and instagrams and weren’t doing this together. I am a huge advocate of community over competition in my photography career and that will flow into my blog career as well. Jeni and I are not the type to get catty or compete with each other and I think we both attract other friends into our lives that have a similar mindset.
JM: I was surprised to see this question pop up a couple of times. No, there is no competition. Paige and I are both girls, girls through and through. I’m sure some will read this and roll their eyes but it’s the truth. We know how lucky we are to have our group that has zero drama and supports each other to no end. I guess that isn’t the norm for all and that makes me sad. I cannot imagine having friends in my adult life that didn’t support me. That doesn’t mean they don’t tell me when I’m being a jerk, they do!
Besides Botox have you tried anything else as far as facial maintenance?
PW: Lip filler once or twice a year. I like a very subtle amount, but I really have to strategize when I get it done because I swell up so embarrassingly bad for a few days. Once the swelling goes down though, I love the extra (very reasonable/non obnoxious) amount of plump. I’m getting marionette lines and want to try some filler in those which I will talk to Dr. Camp about this week! I’m also 90% sure I’m going to get double chin lipo, possibly soon, I will for sure update on our instagram if this is a go! I have a whole long backstory with a jacked up surgery from years ago that will play into this decision. More on all this soon!
JM: I have tried filler in my lips and my extremely laid back husband was very, very mad at me. So….I’ll never do that again. I have also done chemical peels and some laser treatments. We go this week to Dr. Camp for tear trough filler and I’m so nervous but excited. My under eyes have gotten dark and hollow looking as I have aged.
That was a nice second date, come back next week.
Love both of your meeting your Husband stories. So so cute. And jeni, hOw amazing! THaTs suxh an awesome story
