Survey says…Pillow Edition

After what I consider to be the worst injury of my life, aside from my elective cosmetic surgeries, I received some bad news.

Reversing it on back to that dreaded event…

One fine day I was having a lovely time, just enjoying life on my porch swing. Some idiotic thought came over me to lean way the heck back and stretch, kind of like you would in a stationary chair thats not swinging and hovering above concrete dangling by chains. I flipped the swing, landed straight on my pumpkin head on the concrete and now I fully understand when they say in football, “he got his bell rung.” Ding flippin’ dong.

I was unable to talk or move, wait, I take that back, I was able to say the “s” word over and over in a voice that sounded unlike my own. Griffin watched the whole thing from the back door and I’m sure it was one of the more peculiar moments of his life.

When I pulled myself together and made it back inside, I called my mommy, because that’s what you do when you get a bad owie. She suggested I go to the ER.

Jeni was already headed my way from McKinney for a collaboration we were working on. Enneagram 3s get the job done, so I of course had to get the job done before medical aid was rendered.

Jeni took me to the ER and knew that I was not ok mentally and likely had a concussion. I found it hilarious that she said, “Ok doctor, I know that she seems quick and with it, but she’s not. She is very slow and not herself and usually is much more lively with even more jokes.” What are besties for?!

I will always find a way to say something sarcastic, silly or make fun of myself. So I had to joke when she asked about my surgical history. Duh. Don’t set me up for boob job jokes. I’ll take full advantage.

Into the MRI machine I went and the results….

The doctor, who I just so happen to know, showed us this as my fake MRI results and we had a nice laugh.

But for real, I had a concussion, some swelling and arthritis in my neck!

Wait. What?

Dude, that explains so much of my neck pain and HATING EVERY PILLOW EVER! Waking up miserable, crackling and crunching sounds all the time and just an overall war going on between me and my problematic neck.

That diagnosis, led me to ask our amaze wad readers what the best pillow was.

For this second edition of Survey Says, we will get into the pillows that were recommended and maybe, just maybe, we can all get a new pillow and sleep a little better.

See us jumping and smiling? That’s because we found a pillow winner, or at least I did. Jeni may still be deciding.

Paige’s romper is a medium (small was sold out, but would have been better) and Jeni’s set is a small.

I couldn’t feel good about myself if I didn’t do the good deed of sharing all of these crazy cute PJ sets that are marked way down! Most of us could majorly up our pajama game, so we will start with those as the opening act.

Hey Paige? Are you going to ever tell us about the pillows?!?!?!?!?! Yes. Sorry. Yes. Right now.

My Pillow: A lot of you love this pillow. Seems like people love it or throw shade all over it. There are way more gleaming reviews than bad ones, and for $39, I will likely buy one immediately.

Coop: Another cult favorite and named “most adjustable” by Forbes! Wow, so many people are digging this pillow that I have never heard of. This pillow is adjustable so you can get just the perfect amount of shredded memory foam fill. You unzip the outer case, unzip the liner and either take out, or shove in more filler. If you are a hot sleeper ::raises hand and side eyes around to see who else is victimized by the sleep sweats:: try the cooling coop pillow. Reviews are really strong on these.

Cushion Lab: This cervical pillow for neck support was designed by physical therapists to align your head, neck and spine. It has a unique shape and has really helped a lot of people deal with their neck pain. One reader told us it was life changing. This sounds like another add to cart moment for PW.

Tempur-pedic: Another pillow designed for neck pain folks. It follows the natural curve of your body and is supposed to relieve pressure. It’s good for back and side sleepers. I had this pillow for many years and have no complaints. This was also described as life changing by one of our readers.

Luxury Down Pillow: Where my feather pillow ladies at? I see you jumping on the bed at adult slumber parties in lingerie beating up your best friends with your feather pillow. No? That’s just a weird fantasy for dudes? Accurate. This is the king of down pillows and has a pretty big price tag. May be a perfect Black Friday purchase!

Leesa: Another solid option for the hot sleepers committee. It’s cooling and has great reviews. People describe it as the perfect blend of soft and firm, like a mix of a feather and a foam pillow, solid and bouncy.

This cooling Leesa pillow was named the best overall by Forbes.

Bedgear: I’m so excited right now! These are expensive and I found them on HUGE sale. There are quite a few styles and types but if Oprah says it “totally blisses you out” and others have said it changed their sleep game, then I’m in. A reader says she loves the Balance 2.0 because she is a back and tummy sleeper.

Fabritech Bamboo: Comes in soft, medium and firm. Fluffable and shapeable, ideal for side and back sleepers.

Dream Latex Pillow: Also found this latex foam pillow for almost $100 off! Latex foam is more supportive and springier than memory foam. Good for all types of sleepers. One reader has had this for 8 years and just got another one.

Casper: With almost 2700 perfect reviews and only $58, the Casper pillow is a strong contender. It’s microfiber and seems pretty simple and straight forward. Clump resistant, evenly distributed fill and sleeps cool.

YourFacePillow: Did someone say anti aging, anti wrinkle and anti acne?! Also good for TMJ and neck problems. Holy Sandman I want this one too!! My entire christmas list is going to be various pillows. INYOURFACE.

Zoned Dough Lavender: Infused with lavender, and comes with a little aromatherapy spray if you want to turn up the scent a bit. I was gifted this pillow to try by Court and Main in Wisconsin! This one is memory foam, it does feel almost doughy, I love it!

The winning pillow that helps me to sleep so nicely is……….

Cool Pillow: This is my personal winner. I am so happy with this pillow!! It’s cooling, it’s adjustable, it lessens my neck pain. I love how cool it is and I kept all the filling in there just how it came. Highly recommend!

Their easy breather model is the best seller and is a less expensive option that I also recommend. Miggle has these and he is a picky dude and has tried tons of pillows. Trust us, these are worth a try!

This is a great time to update your old mediocre pillow and see what else is out there.
