Spring Break Recap: Jeni’s trip to Southern California

Ahhh Spring Break, you were so good to us this year. We headed to one of our very favorite places for the week, Southern California. It is near and dear to our hearts for a few reasons. Nick grew up there for the first half of his childhood, we have a ton of cousins in the area and let’s face it, who doesn’t enjoy the beach, sun and 70 degree days?!

Our first morning was spent exploring the area we rented a house in, San Clemente. What a cool little town! We walked down to the pier and had one of the BEST lattes I’ve ever had at Bear Coast Coffee. If you are ever in the area its a must. Presley enjoyed their double chocolate muffin…which was basically cake for breakfast. She’s a girl after my own heart for sure.

We were so happy to get some time with our family. Once a year is not enough, they are just so much fun.

Side note, how cool is it to just be able to have a lemon tree in your backyard?! That view would be pretty nice too.

My kids were obsessed with tetherball. They played it for hours and I’m already planning a spot for one in the new house.

We went to Pines Park to check out the view and did some touristy stuff in San Juan Capistrano. We were only a few days too early for the swallows. I’d definitely like to see that one day.

Whale watching through Dana Warf sounded like a great idea. I get very seasick so I asked if the water was rough and they said it was a very calm day. HAAAAA. I ended up taking two dramamine and spend 1.5 out of the 2 hours in the fetal position. If you get sick, skip this.

San Diego Zoo was definitely a highlight. My sister-in-law and I could’ve spent the entire day there. We made sure to stand in line to see the Panda but I only got one shot of her before she walked over to the other side of the exhibit. Apparently it is one of the few zoos in the country that has them. I wore my new favorite squishy sandals and with all the walking we did my feet did not hurt once.

Me and my girl headed to the farmers market on Sunday. She downed some kombucha and I’m totally playing the part of surfer girl in this hat so we pretty much belong in Cali.

Erin and I snuck away to do some shopping on Avenida Del Mar. So many cute boutiques and restaurants, if you are planning a trip you’ll definitely want to check it out. We stopped into Nick’s for a cocktail and some appetizers and it did not disappoint. I’m still thinking about the blueberry mojito & spicy Thai Salad.

While we were shopping and sipping cocktails the guys took the crew to Doheny Beach. They rented some bikes and went on some trails and ended with ice cream. Looks like West (far left) enjoyed his.

There is nothing better to me than being with my family and watching a sunset on the beach. This was our view most nights. We ended the trip with a cookout and bonfire.

Oh how I wish I could be a California girl. This $16 hat held up wonderfully. Cut offs are a must and this striped tee was perfect for the breezy days.

It was a pretty perfect week. Thanks, California!
