Scents can take you back in time, they can make you feel sexy, they can flood your mind with memories and emotions, they can make you gag, that’s pretty powerful.
Let’s hop in our time traveling Saturn, or Mitsubishi Eclipse (with a really tight spoiler obviously) if you were lucky enough. If you were Jeni, slide on in your red Pontiac Firebird and for Paige, hop in that big ass, loud AF blue Dodge Ram single cab with lots of aftermarket bells and whistles. Because high school in the 90s. Grab your large book of CDs off the floor board and pick something to set the vibe. Will it be Tupac, Aaliyah, Oasis, Missy Elliott? I’ll stick with Death Row Greatest Hits disc one. Ok, seat belt on: check, Motorola pager: check, let’s dip.
You are getting ready for school and you obviously look amazing. Paige is curling her bangs just right and the entire population of teenage girls are plucking their over plucked eyebrows just a little more.
You look good girl. Now what perfume will you pick to finish off the process? Will you spray it directly on you or will you spray it in a big perfume cloud and walk through it? So. Many. Decisions.
I was able to track down and link all of these popular 90s perfumes, so if you are feeling like throwing it back, or better yet, getting a hilarious gift for your high school BFF, look no further.
Bringing it back to 2020, our perfume choices may have changed, but we still love when people ask us what perfume we have on! Here are our top choices…
Paige’s Top Picks:
My clear, uncontested champions of the world are these. I’ve gone through countless tubs of the bumbum cream and the perfume is so great when I am running out the door. I brought the bum bum with me to California last time, and normally it’s no problem. This time though, security said I had to throw it away. I pleaded with the man to let me please have another option, “it’s expensive!” I said. “What’s so great about it?” He said. “Smell it!” I said. He smells it and says, “ok, just go throw a small blob of it away in the trash and come back through security and I’ll let you keep it.” Tears were almost shed, but one sniff of it and he was on board.
YSL Black Opium: My sister in law recommended this one and I purchased it nose blindly, smell unsmelled. I ended up absolutely loving it and just ran out, time to restock. It’s base is vanilla and also has a coffee and flower notes. It’s hot.
Tom Ford Black Orchid: What’s up with me and these dark gloomy titled perfumes? This one is a little masculine and guys seem to love when I wear it. It feels like a boss babe scent and it’s really distinct and unique. It’s spicy, a bit floral and woodsy with some vanilla. This perfume is long lasting, you won’t need to reapply.
Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb: Feminine and light, floral and vanilla, this is the perfect everyday. I’m not a huge heavy floral scent kind of girl but this one is soft and really nice.
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue: Ok so this one is an oldie but a goodie. I discovered it in college and I’m still drawn to the clean scent. It’s casual with a little citrus.
Jeni’s Top Picks:
First off I am not a huge perfume person. It’s definitely not something I wear everyday. There have been at least a dozen times someone has asked me what perfume I’m wearing and its not perfume at all. It’s this…
Creed Fleurissimo: This is the perfume I reach for the most. A fun little back story on Creed Fleurissimo: When Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier III he commissioned Creed to create this perfume after her wedding bouquet. Its light & romantic with a really nice floral scent. I just love it!
My second favorite is Tom Ford Neroli Portofino: I bought this for my wedding day. It reminds me of summer and the beach all wrapped up in the perfect combo. I wear this one more in the warmer months.
Shay and I both fell in love with Bond no. 9 New York Nights on our girls trip to NYC. It has a very unique smell that I love. Top notes are gardenia, carnation and jasmine; middle notes are flowers, sea notes, patchouli and sandalwood; base notes are coffee and caramel. Sweet with a little spice to it and definitely one that stands out.
I was influenced by Things I Bought and Liked and decided to try Juliette has a Gun. I don’t grab this one as often but I really do like it and its a nice scent for fall with its warm, cozy vibes.
