Feeling major gratitude feels for how this twisty turvy road brought me to this particular house at this particular point in my life. Purchasing my first home as a single lady was no small feat. HOURS upon HOURS of finding documents, more documents, creating documents and affidavits, trying my best to prove that as an entrepreneur I am able to keep up my level of income, being denied by underwriting a couple of times and thinking it was surely all going to fall through.
But then…
I was handed my official big girl adulting club membership card.
Walking into the title company to close on the house, I was asked if we needed to wait on anyone else. I’m not gonna lie, it felt good stating a big, fat, smiley, “NOPE! It’s just me!”
And then again in the room where I signed all the docs with another lady…
“So are we waiting on someone?”
“No, only me!”
Beyonce began singing to me in that very moment:
All the women, who independent, throw your hands up at me
All the honeys, who makin money….
and I threw my hands up at her, but only on the inside. I had a pen to grab, enough signature writing and initialing to give me a moderate hand cramp and I wanted to play it somewhat cool.
Ok, so this house, it’s precious. I would be totally thrilled to just move in with it as is and maybe make some changes here and there slowly. But, have you met me? I need my first single mama house to be Paiged out in that #paigeweesplayhouse swag and also Paige waits for no-one. Away we gooooooooo!
The previous owner is leasing the house back from me and he will be out of there on friday. It’s. about. to. go. down.
I’m trying to work through one room at a time, so I only have three of the plans completed and items purchased for those rooms.
Formal living room: I don’t know how “formal” this could possibly be since I am not at all the formal type. So for the sake of keeping it all straight, we will call it the formal living room, even though we all know that with kids that’s basically an oxymoron.
Here is what it looked like when I went to the first showing. These are the images I grabbed from the real estate sites and I plan on taking new “before” pictures with it completely empty.
Little house of mine, you are so cute. No, really, I want to pinch your little cheeks and feed you donuts. In order for this to work out between us, (you know, like long term vibes), I’m going to need to spruce you up a little. By a little, I mean a lottle. It’s not you, it’s me. Things are about to get way more lively and be filled with more energy and personality than you know what to do with. So trust the process, enjoy the glow up and embrace my #paigeweesplayhouse changes.
This, my friends, is the beginning stages of my Palm Springs inspired, mid century modern, bachelorette pad. I’m so excited to have y’all along on the renovation ride!
First things first, painting all of the walls white. I will more than likely be going with Sherwin Williams Snowbound again because I liked it so much on #projectwillywalker.
Demolition begins in a few days and all of the current tile will be crossing the rainbow tile bridge. The smudgy poo brown tile that also reminds me way too much of melanoma and random slate will be replaced with this Festival White Stiletto Porcelain Mosaic.
Once the tile is installed, this crazy cute Electric Palm Wallpaper will be going up on the fireplace wall. It will elevate the level of funky fresh without being on too many walls.
This chunky round mirror (on sale!) will go above the mantle. All sorts of fun and interesting items will be expertly displayed on the built in shelves by the one and only Dayme Walther Design.
I chose a silver rug to anchor the space and wanted to save the color for the furniture and decor. I go through rugs way quicker than I would like to with a cat, a dog, my messy self and 4 kids, so I try to keep them inexpensive.
Target really came through in the clutch. I was able to get the floor lamp, fringe table lamp, two rattan barrel chairs AND the planter for under $890! I’m on a much different budget than I was for the custom home that Zach and I built pre-divorce. There are cutie things at every price point and great sales popping up all the time. When Jack Harlow asks me “what’s poppin’?”, I tell him that although I do have a brand new (much more affordable) whip I just hopped in, and while I do have got options, the true poppage currently are the sales Jack, the sales! Facts.
I love the contrast of the beachy rattan with the glam velvet sofa and settee. I never knew I wanted a lips settee until I saw it. Then I had to. Because if not now, when?
Throw pillows are such an easy and inexpensive way to change up the look of a room and one of my favorite ways to add color, texture and pattern. I prefer the karate choppable down filled inserts. It’s the most satisfying chop.
The glass waterfall table is one of the few items that I have from the last move. I didn’t ask for much, but that one I wanted. The white coffee table went on sale the other day so I jumped on it. That cute little blue end table is $116!
I didn’t win any gardening awards with my live fiddle leaf fig, so I’m going with a fake one this time. I did a bunch of research and this seems to be one of the best rated ones. I’ll be the judge of that when I actually see it in person.
My huge beautiful Alana Kay Art piece that I had commissioned will hang on the wall that has the brown shelf on it. She and I will be taking a uhaul to Zach’s house and moving it soon. That will be interesting and instagrammable.
This is one of my favorite photos! I took it when Jeni and I went to Exuma and swam with those big piggies. It’s so much better when art has sentimental value!
I’m having it framed in the silver bamboo and will probably do a 30×40 or maybe larger. There is nothing that looks more puny than a too small piece of art on a blank wall. Go big or just go home, and while you are there remeasure your walls and don’t be afraid of large. Go ahead and tell ’em Large Marge sent ya.
I will be posting on instagram stories and many more blog posts here as I go through the process of transforming this home. The next post will either be one of the bathrooms or the dining room. Which would you like to see first?
i would like to see the dining room- sorry cant turn off capitalized typing. the house is very cute and you are so creative. i really enjoy your blog more than most
Thank you Sarah!! I wish I had more time to blog because I love writing and sharing my daily life! Thanks so much for reading!
