Nick’s New York Birthday- Day 1

I decided to put together a quick trip to New York to celebrate Nick’s 44th birthday! This was his very first time to visit so I wanted to cover a lot of ground…and that we did!

I kept most the of trip a surprise and he was happy to go with the flow. I was not happy to wake up at 3:30am to a notification that our flight was canceled.

After some quick googling I got us on a Delta flight that got in one hour later. We were now landing in JFK instead of LGA but at least our day wasn’t totally ruined.

*If you are flying into NY soon…LGA airport is A LOT nicer and closer to the city*

But we were just thankful to Delta for getting us there.

Just the two of us! Its always fun traveling with friends but some of my favorite trips are when its just us.

We stayed at The Ritz, Central Park and the views are so beautiful…

The beds are so comfortable.

The pillows so fluffy.

The doorman so kind.

The coffee served on pretty saucers with silver cream carafes and super cozy robes.

Gah, I love a good hotel.

Quick change. The weather was mild for summer and this thin button down kept me comfortable.

Quality Italian and Quality Meats both came highly recommended and were walking distance from our hotel. We stopped in for a beverage and a quick bite before the next surprise.

Housemade Ricotta….thats honey and pine nuts on top. Yum!
We split theTUSCAN salad and the PESTO MAFALDINE, both delicious.

Next we took a cab to the NY downtown Manhattan heliport and Nick realized what our next adventure was…

With it being such a quick trip I thought this would be the best and fastest way to see the city!

I booked on this site.

The views were incredible. Statue of liberty, Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park and so much more in under 30 minutes.

What I didn’t take in to account was my motion sickness. Literally never crossed my mind that a helicopter ride would leave me dry heaving on the tarmac.

Word of advise, if you get car sick, sea sick, etc., you will most likely get helli-sick and should take a dramamine and hope fore the best.

We had dinner plans at a place called Pilot. This restaurant is inside an old teak sailboat docked in the harbor with incredible views of the NY skyline but I needed a minute to regroup. Sad we missed this and really want to try again on the next trip.

The 330 am wakeup had us struggling and we decided a nap was in order. Then we rallied.

Dinner Time.

Cipriani is NY staple and this location was walking distance from our hotel. The food and the people watching were both amazing.

Bellinis, pasta dripping in butter and Lamb (for Nick)

A delicious slice of cake and we were ready to check Times Square off our list.

Check. We saw it, we snapped a pic and we left.

Paiges brother talked me into going to The Comedy Cellar. It is super famous and people like Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock stop in often. They are usually sold out but since it was a Tuesday night we got lucky. They made us put our phones in a mailing envelope and seal them before we could enter.

We laughed until we cried. There were about 8 comedians who performed stand up. Many were writers from SNL. Definitely recommend! It was the perfect ending to a really great day.

Day 2 coming up tomorrow…hopefully.

Welcome to New York
