Who Dis? In true bestie form neither of us knew the other had a hair appointment on the same day at the same time with eerily similar inspo pics. Twin soul ish right there! We chopped and it feels so niiiiiice. Read below about the products we are using to keep these locks lovely.
Jeni: I was in desperate need of a full highlight and SO over the extensions. Don’t get me wrong, they were fun for some time. No matter how hard I tried and how many Courtney Kerr tutorials I watched I couldn’t pull my hair in a pony without my weave showing. Its almost summer and with pool/workouts/Texas heat….ponies are a must.
I was ready for a change.
I cannot recommend my girl Whitney at Von Anthony salon enough. Its so nice to be able to walk in and have complete trust. She’s so great with blondes and just a cool chick so I enjoy my time in her chair. If you’re in the Frisco area and looking for a new stylist, she’s your girl!
I showed her this Inso pic, and let her do her thing
20% of you said NOOOOOO. Well….
Too late.
Here is the finished product. I am super happy with it! It feels so light and healthy.
Below is my usual line up of hair products:
These are Whitney’s suggestions that I am adding to cart ASAP.
First up: Oribe Bright Blonde Priming Serum. “A brightening serum that tones and eliminates brassiness while replenishing moisture and protecting hair from heat damage.” Yes, please.
Next, Oribe Serene Scalp Thickening Treatment Spray. ” A powerful treatment for thinning hair that’s proven to leave it feeling fuller, thicker and healthier.”
Last but not least, Oribe Aprés Beach Wave and Shine Spray. This one took my hair to the next level and created the look of a sea salt spray without the drying effect.
Last on my list of wants is this straighter….Whitney says its the best so its the best.
Paige: I’m addicted to the hair-roids for both length and fullness, but that doesn’t mean I can’t cut them short anytime I dang well please. I have had both tape in extensions and hand tied and I’m on the fence on which I prefer.
Tape ins are more customizable in my opinion because each weft is very small and can be placed just about anywhere it can be hidden. I was able to go way longer between appointments to have them moved up and I think they looked more natural and fuller in the front. The cons are that the sticky tape takes a long time and lots of essential oils to fully remove it from your hair. I also found them to be more damaging. Oh, and they seem to take quite a bit longer to be put in.
Hand tied is what I am currently rocking and have been for a while. The placement is fairly limited since they come on a long string. I have two rows in my hair. These are sewn in and are pretty quick to have done. I have to get these moved up every 6 weeks which works out with getting my color done too. The pros are that they aren’t as damaging and the appointments are faster. The cons, mine tend to start coming undone in at least one spot by week six, which makes it hard to hide in a ponytail and can make one side look longer. Luckily, I was able to put my hair up in ponytails and buns without them being detected most of the time. You can’t get as much fullness in the front with these since they stop behind the ears.
I absolutely love extensions and will continue to have them as long as they work with the length. And working they are!
I keep hearing that I look younger with my shorter do which makes me immediately want to offer anyone who says that $100 bill. I know I will go super long again one day, I have always alternated between long and short because I get tired of the same old look. After a very brief adjustment period and learning curve, I am very much doin’ my hair toss, check my nails, baby how you feeling?
FEELIN’ GOOD AS HELL
Vanessa, my beloved stylist, had already seen my instagram story poll. When I walked in she was like, “ok how short are we going?!” I left it up to her because I don’t care. If I don’t like it, I’ll be back in six weeks and we can deal with it then.
To the 89% who went with shmedium, I hope you are pleased with your choice. To the 11% who thought it should stay long, it will be back one day for sure.
The most stunningly beautiful selfie I have ever seen after my extensions were out and hair was washed. This image was sent to our college bestie group text in response to Jeni’s wet hair selfie.
I had these inspo pics, plus the one from the instagram story poll, but I forgot to show Vanessa. She doesn’t need no stinking inspo pic anyway. Hair gods, if you are out there, can you please give me the know-how to style it like the below cuties.
Or at the very least leave some of my favorite sea salt spray in my mailbox. With very inconvenient timing, I just sprayed the last three pumps of it before my date night. It makes the biggest difference in achieving the messier beachy look and getting my hair textured enough to hold the waves. I love the smell, and the product does it’s job, but now I’m really feeling influenced by both Vanessa AND Whitney who recommended the same beach wave spray, now linked in Jeni’s section of this post and at the very bottom of mine.
Here you can see a mirror selfie I took a couple of weeks ago, and one I took last night.
Annnnd a closer up version with no phone blocking the hairways.
On to my top hair products as well as Vanessa’s!
My mom has this hair dryer and it quite literally blew my mind. I used it when I was living with my parents while my house was being renovated. I felt like a dog with my head out the window in the best way possible. Hair gods hooked me up already, because I just found this on sale!
This is my favorite curling iron and ding ding ding, it’s on sale, a hair god gets it’s wings.
My go-to detangling, heat prevention, frizz eliminating, most delicious smelling, blow dry time (by 50%) decreasing bottle of greatness. My stylist years and years ago recommended this and I have loved it ever since.
This is all I have for you for hair product recommendations. Vanessa, though, she just spilled some major stylist tips and I just feel like I got let in on a clean little secret.
Vanessa from Katour’s Salon in Fort Worth with her starting line up of hair products
Her shampoo and conditioner recs:
For Blondes or those in need of some hair repair. It’s the same price across the internet, but I linked it to somewhere I order from often that has free 2 day shipping!
This is what she uses at the salon. Great for daily use and smells great! The best bang for your buck at $18 and she says everyone comments on the fragrance.
For purple shampoo and conditioner, this is hands down the best. Plus, it leaves your hair super soft!
Do you and your fancy hair prefer a luxury line? Vanessa loves this!
Her styling recs:
Top two oils for strengthening, minimizing fly aways, hydrating, shine and heat protecting
Her favorite mousse gives fullness throughout and the shine is on point! I never even think about mousse, I want to start thinking about this underrated product and add it to my flow.
For working hairspray which is a lightweight flexible hold, she recommends Moroccan oil in medium and spraying each section before you curl. For a strong hold hairspray she likes the Kevin Murphy best.
The dry shampoo winner that doesn’t flake, smells great and comes in a jumbo value 7.3 oz size is…
For texture or beach waves try these!
